The Role
A peer supporter assists entrepreneurs with support and information, and by providing an understanding and empathetic ear. The support is provided through one on one interactions by email, text, or phone, and can be a temporary or on-going relationship.
Expectations
A peer supporter can expect to spend between 2 - 4 hours per month supporting an entrepreneur. A relationship will be formed and the structure of the communications will be agreed upon between the peer supporter and the entrepreneur. The interactions will be overseen by S4MH to ensure that a safe and positive environment is created and maintained.
Training and Support for the Peer Supporter
S4MH will provide guidance to the Peer Supporter in the form of clear objectives and expectations, and on-going support and communications. S4MH will arrange and pay for ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) training courses. These courses, along with an interview with the S4MH Founder and the S4HM Director of Programs are pre-requisites for assuming the role. This level of training and vetting is in place for the safety and benefit of all involved parties.
