Mental Health Helplines

Below is a non-exhaustive list of Canada-wide, Provincial and Territorial helplines for fast or crisis support. For more ways to get help you can also reach out to a family physician, psychologist, mental health nurse or social worker.

Canada-wide Support

  • If you're in immediate danger or need urgent medical support, call 9-1-1.

  • If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, call or text 9-8-8. Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

    9-8-8: Suicide Crisis Helpline offers support that is:

    • bilingual

    • trauma-informed

    • culturally appropriate

    • available to anyone in Canada

  • Call 1-800-668-6868 (toll-free) or text CONNECT to 686868. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to Canadians aged 5 to 29 who want confidential and anonymous care from trained responders.

    Visit the Kids Help Phone website for online chat support from 7pm to midnight.

  • Hope for Wellness Help Line

    Call 1-855-242-3310 (toll-free) or connect to the online Hope for Wellness chat.

    Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples seeking emotional support, crisis intervention, or referrals to community-based services.

    Support is available in English and French and, by request, in Cree, Ojibway, and Inuktitut.

    The National Indian Residential School Crisis Line

    Crisis support is available to former Indian Residential School students and their families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-866-925-4419 (toll-free).

    Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Crisis Line

    Crisis support is available to individuals impacted by the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-844-413-6649 (toll-free).

    Talk 4 Healing

    Indigenous women can get help, support and resources seven days a week, 24 hours a day, with services in 14 languages. Toll-free: 1-855-554-4325 or text: 1-855-554-4325

  • ConnexOntario Helpline

    Free and confidential health services information for people experiencing problems with alcohol and drugs, mental illness or gambling.

    211 Ontario

    Information and referral for community, government, social and health services, including mental health resources across Ontario.

    BounceBack®

    A free cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) program that offers guided mental health self-help supports for adults and youth 15 and older.

    • Peer Support Phone Service: Provides a safe space to connect with peer supporters who have personal experience with mental health and substance use challenges.

    • Provincial Mental Health and Addictions Crisis Line

      • Line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

    • Access Wellness: Access Wellness provides a single session of 1-to-1 counselling to help people dealing with mental health concerns.

    • Mental health and addictions services: If you or a family member needs help, you can self-refer to a mental health or addictions clinic.

    Bridge the gApp Adult: Visit to connect with guidance and support for mental health and addictions.

  • Mental Health and Addictions Phone Line

    • Call 1-833-553-6983.

    • Calls are answered by trained mental health professionals (a registered nurse or a social worker) 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

    Walk in to Open Access Counselling to speak with a trained counsellor in person. No appointment is necessary. See locations, hours and phone numbers

    Contact the Mobile Mental Health Response Service for assessment, treatment and connection to ongoing mental health care during a time of crisis.

    • Sexual Assault Crisis Line (24/7)

      • For anyone, ages 16 and up, who has experienced sexual assault. Phone: 204-786-8631 or toll-free 1-888-292-7565.
